Any person who has founded, operates, or materially sustains a venture may petition the Order for membership. “Venture” is construed broadly: a company, a product, a project of commercial intent, or any undertaking that requires the commitment of resources toward an outcome not yet certain.

Canon IX.6

The Founding Sixty-Four

The first sixty-four members admitted to the Roll are designated Founding Members. The designation is permanent, irrevocable, and not conferred upon any member admitted thereafter. A Founding Member bears the prefix “Founding” before their rank at all times. When the sixty-fourth member is admitted, the designation is sealed.

The Ranks of the Order

The Order recognises eight stations of standing, listed here in ascending order. Ranks are sustained by the faithful payment of annual dues. Ranks are verifiable — no member may claim a rank that the Order cannot confirm.

IAspirantHas declared the desire to begin. Nothing more is claimed.
IIDiscipleUnder instruction. Learning the Canons. Has submitted to the discipline of the Order.
IIIKeeperTends the burn. Has been entrusted with something — a rate, a runway, a fire — and maintains it deliberately. The rank most members will hold longest, and the one in which the most consequential work is done.
IVScryerSees what others cannot yet see. Reads the signs of fit approaching, of default shifting, of compounding beginning its work. Perception, in the judgement of the Order, is a spiritual discipline, not a natural gift.
VInquisitorHas earned the authority to examine. Questions the claims of others and tests the fitness of ventures brought before the Order. The Order’s instrument of rigour.
VIChampionHas proven themselves in the arena of the world and returned to the Order bearing what they learned. A Champion’s authority derives from having been tested, not merely from having endured.
VIIZealotTotal, consuming devotion. Beyond proof, beyond question, beyond the need for external validation. The fire is no longer something the Zealot tends — it is something the Zealot is.
VIIIThe InfiniteThe summit. An honorific, not a rank. Conferred, never purchased. Held only by the members of The Seven.

Of Ascent

†No rank may be skipped. Each is entered from the rank immediately below it, and by no other path.
†Aspirant through Keeper are advanced by petition and payment of the ordination fee. These transitions require nothing beyond the member’s willingness and the fee.
†Advancement to Scryer requires the written endorsement of no fewer than three members holding the rank of Scryer or above.
†From Scryer through Champion, a member advances by the faithful continuation of annual dues for a further year beyond the minimum of their rank, or by the completion of one sanctioned task.
†Advancement to Zealot cannot be hastened. Twelve months of membership, and The Public Confession: a declaration made in a public forum, acknowledging one’s burn, one’s mortality as a venture, or a lesson drawn from failure — attributed to the Order by name.
†The Infinite is conferred, not advanced to. No more than seven may hold the honorific at any time; together they constitute The Seven. Election requires their unanimous assent.

The Testimony

A canonical account of the first year of one’s own venture and its burn, written for publication by the Order in the Book of Testimonies.

The Sponsorship

The successful introduction of three new Aspirants, each of whom completes initiation.

The Catechism

Passing a formal examination on the Canons of Burn — the sacred conditions, the ranks, and the obligations set down therein.

Membership is entered by payment of the entry fee and annual dues. There is no free tier. The Order holds that commitment without cost is not commitment. It is not sustained by donation, offering, or tithe — the Order does not solicit gifts. It collects what is owed.

The Roll is open

Names are set down in the order received. 23 of the sixty-four founding seats remain unassigned. When the sixty-fourth member is admitted, the designation is sealed.
